What is NIE?

Newspaper in Education (NIE) provides locals schools with resources to help promote youth readership. Upon request, NIE provides teachers with lesson plans, free newspapers, and other educational services that help promote reading in LaSalle County. Newspapers act as relevant textbooks that are updated daily and provide a wealth of knowledge for students and teachers alike.

SNG Inc.'s NIEducation Literacy Program sponsors numerous educational activities and contests throughout the year in Illinois & Minnesota. Contests and competitions include: International Literacy Day, Spelling Bees (a Scripps affiliate), NIE Week (which includes Design an Ad Competition, Journalism Contests, and Photojournalism Contests), Student Press Awards as well as in-school visits from your local newspaper

By local schools participating in the many events sponsored by NIE donors, student achievements are showcased, and so are local sponsoring businesses who Adopt-A-Class. Participation allows for students to apply knowledge, meet academic standards, use reasoning skills and gain public recognition.
